TEXAS CHALLENGE
80+ WINS BRONZE
AT NATIONAL SENIOR
OLYMPICS....
PRESS RELEASE

Texas Challenge 80+ Senior Women’s 3 on 3 basketball team wins bronze – 65+ team sets Olympic tournament record with high point score at 2007 Senior Olympics – Now setting sights on upcoming WNBA exhibitions – by Kay Seamayer, Player/Coach

Dallas, Texas, July 10, 2007: Just back from Louisville, KY where these sassy senior athletes competed in the 2007 Senior Olympics, they’ve already got their next big gigs lined up to play exhibitions in San Antonio on July 27th, and in Houston on August 8th at two separate WNBA games of the San Antonio Silver Stars and the Houston Comets.

The 80+ 3 on 3 team won bronze medal and only one point separated them from playing for the gold. Coach Seamayer: “These ladies never gave up.. they fought and played hard every game. I was so proud of their determination and spunk! Congratulations girls!!”
Lillian Rudd who is 90, and oldest team member, hung tough right along side the others.

Seamayer is a player/coach the 65+ Olympic team. Although the 65+ team battled hard and played with great courage against seventeen other strong competitors, they did not medal. However, they set a tournament Olympic record with most points scored in a single game in regulation play (2 – 12 minute halves) with 52 points. Over 100 total games were played in this age group. This is a new team comprised of players from across the state of Texas and Louisiana and their first participation in the Olympic games.
Coach Seamayer: “What a great showing this new team made… With very little practice time all together prior to the Olympics, I was extremely proud of the way our team performed. We played within 12 points of the National Champs…gold medal winner from Michigan (who seemed twice our size! – but then, everyone did!!)
We were tied at the half and only began to pull away right at the end. We fought hard to compete against such big and experienced players. Everyone played with a great deal of heart and determination and naturally, we started out expecting to win every game!! What a class act!”

It was a great learning experience and fantastic fun for both teams. We will be working hard recruiting and developing players and teams who will prepare to compete in the 2009 Senior Olympics to be held in the San Francisco Bay area. Houston will host the 2011 Senior Olympics. Approximately 15,000 athletes competed in the 2007 games.
