Texas Challenge and Scotland Junior Women National Squad exchange love of basketball at WNBA Houston Comets Game - Aug 7, 2007

We were so lucky to catch up with the Junior Women Natinoal Squad and their head coach, Donna Finnie in Houston at a Houston Comet's game..

The following is excerpts of an email I received from Coach Finnie after having sent this photo to the team.

Hi Kay....Thank you so much for your email and the picture. The girls love it! I took a couple as well so when we get back to Scotland. We really enjoyed watching you guys at half time and think a senior olympic team is a great idea....we don't have that in Scotland!!

I only have half of my team with me here ( as it was very expensive and we don't have a sponsor!) so I will give you their details and if you want more info you can check our website www.basketball-scotland.com - junior women national team. The girls you met were:Deanne HaywardRebecca CummingRebecca AllisonAnnie RowanHolly FillinghamKatie BissetMairi Buchan. We have been in the US since 31 July and we leave 12 August. We were playing in the Lamar University team camp ( I played at Lamar and am friends with the new head coach!) and then we played a couple of high school teams and tonight we are playing in Lake Charles in an elite girls tournament. We have just finished our European Championship year, we played in Romania in the FIBA European B Championships. This was the first time a Scottish team has competed at this level and the girls finished 16th out of the 20 countries that played. We had games against Greece, Portugal, Bosnia, Netherlands, England, Slovenia, Finland and Austria. The girls come from various club teams across Scotland - basketball is a VERY small sport over there. We only have four teams at their age group so we do real well to compete over here!!

Coach Seamayer: Thank you, Donna, for bringing these talented young ladies to the US to play basketball. We hope you have a great time here...and that you will come again. Who knows, we may see you in Scotland one day... playing a senior tour!!!

We have actually talked about playing a national and internationl tour of 3 on 3 senior basketball....so it is not out of the realm of possibility...

It was a great pleasure for us to meet you and your young ladies....and to see you inside at the game. Please stay in touch..... and good luck to all!!!

Texas Challenge teams up with WNBA HOUSTON COMETS -Toyota Center - to play halftime exhibition game and pre game show.

August 7, 2007 - Another great show and recruiting effort by the
Texas Challenge - Basketball and Fitness for Senior Women in Houston, Texas! The team was honored in a pre game show by the Houston Comets for their recent participation and accomplishments in the 2007 Senior Olympics held in Louisville, KY.

And at halftime, the team performed their "Granny Globetrotter" ball handling routine, then broke in to playing 3 on 3 on each end of the court. The Challenge definitely gave the crowd what they came for - lots of action and points scored!!

We spoke with several women in the crowd who showed interest in joining our senior basketball program. We welcome anyone 50 or better to contact us to join in this fun and fitness program.

Coach Gary Blair of Texas A & M came courtside after the game and commended our team for its accomplishments and has invited us to A & M to perform a pre game and halftime show as we did in Houston and San Antonio at WNBA games. We gladly accepted!! More details to follow!
